Suckerfish Handling in South Jakarta is Run in Accordance with MUI Recommendations

Joint personnel have again caught suckerfish at the Setu Babakan Sluice Gate in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta. The handling of the invasive fish is being carried out in accordance with the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI)'s recommendations regarding burial procedures.

It went well today

South Jakarta Mayor, Muhammad Anwar, said that before the fish were buried, all the fish were ensured to be dead.

Suckerfish Control in East Jakarta Collects 1.87 Tons

"We carried out this process according to the MUI's recommendations. It went well today," he said, Tuesday (4/21).

Anwar explained that the control of the suckerfish was carried out simultaneously in a number of areas, involving around 60 joint personnel from the South Jakarta City Government, army, and community elements.

"This time, we're targeting catching five tons of suckerfish. Last Friday, we managed to collect around 5.3 tons," he explained.

This activity will be carried out intensively twice a week, focusing on upstream areas. This is expected to suppress the suckerfish population downstream.

"It is hoped that the quality of the environment and water will improve so that people can live healthier and more prosperous lives," he hoped.
